HOW IT WORKS

Every place leaves a mark

From the photos already on your phone to a map you can keep for years, with as much sharing as you want and no more.

01

Photos become places

Find past visits in the photos that carry a date and a location.

  1. 1.1The scan runs on your device; your photo library never leaves the phone.
  2. 1.2Review what was found: merge nearby days, split long stays, fix the name of a place.
  3. 1.3Only the photos you pick are uploaded to your private album.

02

Capture this place

Take a photo where you are; Wayfarer uses a recent, precise location for that visit.

  1. 2.1In-app camera plus a fresh, precise position.
  2. 2.2Verified server-side with Apple App Attest, so edited or replayed evidence does not count.
  3. 2.3Every visit is tagged by land or by sea, so a road trip and a boat day share one map.

Keep your memories on the map.

Land and sea visits side by side, each place with its own private album.

  1. 3.1A globe in five styles: Midnight, Ocean, Lagoon, Terrain and Satellite.
  2. 3.2Private albums with up to 20 photos per place.
  3. 3.3Download the regions you visit most for offline use with Plus.

Friends, without the noise

Follow the travellers you know. Like, comment and reply on the visits they choose to share.

  1. 4.1Following and Friends feeds with threaded comments.
  2. 4.2Live location only with mutual friends you pick, and only while the app is open.
  3. 4.3Find people by hashed email; the hash is made on your device and never stored.

PRIVACY

You choose what to share.

Your visits start private. You decide which photos to share and which friends can see your live location.

PhotosWayfarer uses photo locations to suggest visits for your map. Only photos you select are uploaded to your private album.
LocationWayfarer uses your precise location for photo check-ins and your map. Live location is shared only with friends you choose, when you start sharing.
ContactsWayfarer matches hashed email identifiers to help you find travellers you know. Your contacts are not stored.

Photo location analysis runs on your device. Scanning does not upload your library or its local identifiers. These are the exact permission texts shown by iOS. Read the privacy policy

FAQ

Questions, answered plainly

Short answers in the same words the app uses.

Is Wayfarer free?

Yes. The free plan includes the map, private albums, photo check-ins, the feed and review of your first 50 photo candidates. Wayfarer Plus is an optional subscription for offline regions, full library review, export and the travel passport.

Which devices are supported?

iPhone running iOS 17 or later. Wayfarer is an iPhone app; there is no Android or web version yet.

Does Wayfarer upload my photo library?

No. Photo location analysis runs on your device. Only the photos you select for a visit are resized, stripped of unnecessary EXIF data and stored in your private album.

Is Wayfarer only for boats?

No. Wayfarer is for every kind of trip: city breaks, road trips, hikes and days on the water. Each visit is tagged by land or by sea, and everything lives on one map.

Who can see my live location?

Only mutual friends you select, and only while Wayfarer is open. Sharing stops when you leave the app, sign out or revoke permission. Only the latest position is stored; there is no movement history.
